Me & My Blog

Hi, it's me, SteFanie Riemath, born and raised at 'Steiff-Village' (D); after my school exams I worked at the Kibbutz Hatzor-Ashdod in Israel, went to London as an Au-Pair and passed the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English. After two years abroad, I returned to Germany to get a B.A. in English literature at the University of Tübingen and moved on to Hamburg to read American Literature & Foreign Language Research. I finally finished my studies with a thesis on Zora Neale Hurston to receive my M.A. (Magistra Artium).
I moved to the Netherlands in 2007 and decided to share my knowledge and experience in literature. Consequently, I started The English Book Club in 2009 and expanded in 2011 with the Short Story Reading Club. In 2012, I took on two Dutch literary courses at the volksuniversiteit Breda and in 2013/2014 I was working at the office of Writers Unlimited - the finest international literature festival in The Hague.
I took a sabbatical in 2014/2015 and taught English in Germany. Additionally, I started a series of lectures on "Frau und Literatur" which will be held twice a year in Aalen (D).
Since September 2015 onwards I have presided over all literary courses at the volksuniversiteit Breda. Besides of that, I have resumed The English Book Club in Tilburg. Next to it all, I teach English at a university of applied sciences (hbo) in Eindhoven.

Why this blog? A lot of female authors aren't widely known and I have therefore decided to present each month a female writer and hope to inspire others to read on. Enjoy!

Note: Contrary to the general use of surnames when presenting an author I do explicitly use the first name since many of the writers change surnames by marriage.
